A Couple's Mission: Turning Steps into Hope
In a heartwarming initiative, Armadale residents Michelle Chan and Nathanael Harrison are embarking on a journey of fitness and fundraising, each with their own unique story and motivation.
The twist? Despite being married, they're not on the same team for this challenge. Instead, they've set individual goals, aiming to run an impressive 1000 kilometers and raise $888 each by March's end.
For Michelle, the journey began with a simple yet powerful message from her sister, Agnes, a medical researcher in Sydney. "I've seen the impact of the March Charge, but never participated. My sister's encouragement was the push I needed," she shares.
But here's where it gets controversial... Nathanael's involvement carries a deeper, more personal meaning. Having faced his own cancer diagnosis in 2013 and witnessed its impact on loved ones, he's passionate about raising awareness and funds.
"Hearing the diagnosis was overwhelming," Michelle reveals. "The Cancer Council was a lifeline, offering support and resources to navigate the journey. Nathanael is eager to give back and spread the word about their vital work."
Nathanael's message is clear: "If something feels off, trust your instincts and seek medical advice. I had to advocate for myself, and early detection saved my life."
And this is the part most people miss... Beyond the immediate challenge, Michelle's drive is fueled by the long-term impact of medical research. "Advances take time and investment. We need to support research now for future breakthroughs. It's a marathon, not a sprint."
The March Charge, celebrating its 10th year, encourages Australians to move in any way they can throughout March, solo or with loved ones. By participating, you reduce cancer risk, promote activity, and fund research, prevention, and support.
