In a surprising twist that has boxing fans buzzing, Jake Paul is set to make a return to the ring this year after undergoing surgery for a fractured jaw he sustained in his bout against Anthony Joshua. This time, he’s aiming for a rematch with Tommy Fury, and the venue could very well be the UK.
Paul is currently in discussions about his next steps in boxing, and it’s highly likely that a confrontation with Fury will be a focal point of these talks. After suffering a loss to Anthony Joshua, who fights at heavyweight, Paul—naturally a cruiserweight—might be keen on avenging his earlier defeat to Fury, the younger brother of Tyson Fury, who narrowly bested him in a points decision in 2023.
Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions alongside Paul, stated in an interview with Sky Sports: "Jake is eager to showcase his ability to the world by defeating Tommy Fury. Before facing Joshua, Jake only had one loss, which was against Tommy, and I believe that a rematch would serve as a significant measure of Jake's growth as a fighter."
He further elaborated, expressing confidence that Fury hasn't advanced in skill as much as Paul has over the past few years, suggesting that Fury has not maintained the same dedication to boxing.
Despite facing a former unified heavyweight champion, Paul managed to go six rounds with Joshua, although he suffered a broken jaw during that match. Nevertheless, he is determined to get back into the sport later this year, with a preference for fighting in the UK. "He wants to come back. He’s asking me to start negotiating some fights," Bidarian mentioned. "We anticipate seeing Jake back in the boxing ring sometime between August and November. I would love for him to have a match in the UK; that’s something I’m really advocating for."
Paul certainly does not fit the traditional mold of a boxer. The social media star has taken on UFC champions and even the legendary 58-year-old Mike Tyson, yet he managed to surprise many by lasting several rounds against Joshua. Bidarian contends that this fight could redefine Paul’s career trajectory.
"Considering he had only four weeks of preparation for someone of Joshua's caliber, I think he performed admirably. He recognizes there’s still a lot of work ahead of him. For instance, his stamina was an issue; had he maintained his energy, he likely could have gone eight rounds instead of running out of steam, leading to Joshua catching him. Ironically, I believe losing to Joshua may benefit Jake considerably in the long run."
A rematch with Tommy Fury promises to be another sensational event. Bidarian pointed out, "The online interest for Jake Paul versus Tommy Fury in the UK surpassed that of any Tyson Fury fight in the last five years, and even eclipsed all but Mike Tyson when it comes to Jake Paul fights, including his match against Anthony Joshua held in Saudi Arabia. If we can organize that fight in the UK or somewhere in Europe, I’m confident it would draw massive attention from the youth and internet-savvy generation."
"While it’s challenging to host such an event in someone else’s country, we’ll see where our negotiations lead us, but I am keen to hold a fight in the UK with Jake. It would make a substantial statement."
