Imagine being set up on a date with one of Hollywood's biggest stars, only to find the experience utterly disappointing. That’s precisely what happened to Sara Foster, the executive producer of the upcoming project "Nobody Wants This." In a recent episode of her podcast, "The World’s First Podcast," which she co-hosts alongside her sister Erin Foster, Sara opened up about an unexpected and lackluster date she had with the renowned actor George Clooney, dating back nearly three decades.
During their conversation, Sara revealed that supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber played matchmakers, hoping to connect her with the Oscar-winning actor. "Can you believe I was set up with George Clooney around 30 years ago? And honestly, it was such a letdown," she shared candidly. "I just had to get that out there!"
Erin, clearly taken aback, responded with surprise, asking, "Wait, you actually went on a date with him?"
Sara recounted how the setup happened when she was in her early twenties. "Rande and Cindy tried to hook me up with him when I was about 24. The four of us met, and I just felt a strong ‘no’ from the beginning. Didn’t you know that?" She continued with a hint of disbelief, sharing her youthful perspective at the time: "I distinctly remember thinking, ‘Wow, he feels really old.’ I often question why younger women are attracted to older men. Sure, it works for some, but I could never wrap my head around a 19-year-old dating a 40-year-old—it always seemed bizarre to me."
Foster went on to express that she was actually "offended" by her friends' attempt to match her with Clooney because he seemed so much older than her. At 44, Sara is two decades younger than George, who is now 64.
"I’m sure George Clooney is a lovely person, but sitting there with him and Cindy and Rande, I thought to myself, ‘This is so awkward, I might as well be dying,’" she recounted, noting that she was still heartbroken over a previous relationship during that time. "He just gave off this 'grandpa' vibe, which was pretty depressing. I was feeling really down."
Despite her straightforward remarks, Sara clarified that her intention was not to insult the talented actor. Interestingly, she recalled that Clooney didn't seem particularly interested in her either.
"I don't think George was eager to meet me. It felt more like Rande and Cindy were just trying to introduce us, thinking I’d be a great match for him," she explained. "Honestly, I ended up crying about my ex-boyfriend during our conversation. I can only imagine he thought, ‘This girl is definitely not okay.’"
Erin jested with her sister, pointing out that she might be the only woman on Earth who would be unimpressed by a date with someone widely regarded as the 'Heartthrob of America.'
Fast forward to today, and Sara has moved on with her life. She married former professional tennis player Tommy Haas in 2006, and together they welcomed two daughters before their separation in 2023. Meanwhile, George Clooney has found happiness with Amal Clooney since their marriage in 2014, and the couple is now proud parents of twins.
