Amid a surge in ICE activity, including a shooting that left a woman dead, more school districts are canceling classes for Friday. They join Minneapolis Public Schools, which did not hold classes on Thursday and will not on Friday either. Harvest Best Academy and Minnesota Transitions Charter School have also cancelled classes. Columbia Heights Public Schools said they are shifting to a Flex Learning Day on Friday. There has been an increase in federal agents in the Twin Cities for weeks, but in recent days, there has been a surge of more than 2,000 agents. On Wednesday, Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent. Later that same day, agents used a chemical irritant outside Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis and took at least one staff member into custody. Gov. Tim Walz called for a 'Day of Unity' on Friday, asking people to take the day to remember Good and to take part in a collective moment of silence at 10 a.m. But here's where it gets controversial... While some argue that the increased presence of ICE agents is necessary for national security, others believe that the surge in activity is an overreaction and a violation of civil liberties.
