The Zeekr 7GT: A Global Electric Revolution with Unmatched Charging Power
Get ready for a game-changer in the automotive world! Zeekr, a rising star under the Geely Holdings umbrella, has unleashed its 7GT electric wagon, boasting an astonishing 450 kW of charging power. But here's where it gets exciting: this cutting-edge vehicle is now making waves beyond its home turf.
In April 2024, Zeekr introduced the 7GT, showcasing its impressive performance and charging capabilities. Fast forward to the present, and this powerhouse is making its international debut at the Brussels Motor Show in Belgium. The company pulled out all the stops, presenting a sleek two-tone 7GT wagon to European media and industry insiders, leaving them in awe.
"We're taking a significant step forward by expanding the Zeekr portfolio with our fourth model in Europe," said Lothar Schupet, Acting CEO of Zeekr Europe. And the excitement didn't stop there. Social media buzzed with anticipation, with enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the 7GT's arrival in their respective countries.
But the 7GT's journey didn't begin in Europe. It first made its mark in China, surprising the market with a price tag much lower than anticipated. The entry-level wagon started at just under $A44,000, while the top-spec model reached nearly $A50,000. But the real magic lies in its charging capabilities.
The 7GT's secret weapon is Zeekr's proprietary Golden Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery, capable of peak charging speeds of up to 500 kW. This technology is also found in the 7X SUV, which has already garnered over 3,000 pre-orders and around 1,000 deliveries by the end of 2025. The 7GT's charging prowess is further enhanced by its 800 V architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging and advanced drivetrain technologies.
Imagine charging your car from 10-80% in just 10.5 minutes! This is the reality with the 75 kWh pack, assuming you have access to a powerful enough charger. While Australia's current chargers max out at 400 kW, higher-powered sites are on the horizon for 2026.
But it's not just about speed; the 7GT delivers on range too. The entry-level variant offers up to 650 km of CLTC range on a single charge, translating to approximately 570 km on the WLTP cycle. And when it comes to performance, the 7GT doesn't disappoint. The base model packs a punch with a 310 kW rear-mounted motor, delivering 440 Nm of peak torque and accelerating from 0-100 km/h in a swift 5.2 seconds.
For those seeking even more power, the dual-motor variants deliver an additional 165 kW front-mounted motor, resulting in a combined power output of 475 kW. This upgrade slashes the 0-100 km/h acceleration time to an impressive 3.8 seconds. These high-performance models are equipped with a Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese (NCM) 100 kWh pack, providing an extended CLTC range of up to 825 km.
Design-wise, the 7 GT strikes a perfect balance between practicality and sportiness. Its large wheels and sloping roofline appeal to traditional SUV buyers seeking a more versatile option. Inside, Zeekr's clean design and intuitive physical buttons make it user-friendly and easy to live with.
The 7GT also features a screen behind the steering wheel and a large heads-up display, ensuring drivers stay focused on the road. Currently, Zeekr offers a range of electric vehicles in Australia, including the small SUV X, the luxury people mover 009, and the mid-sized SUV 7X.
With limited electric wagon options available, particularly in the luxury segment, the Zeekr 7 GT is poised to make a significant impact in Europe and potentially Australia within the next year. And this is the part most people miss: the 7GT's combination of performance, charging capabilities, and practicality could be a game-changer for the electric vehicle market. But will it live up to the hype?
